YOSHIKI will take part as a special act on the 71st “Kohaku Uta Gassen” (red and white song battle). With a call from YOSHIKI, QUEEN’s Roger Taylor and Brian May, along with Sarah Brightman will participate remotely from across the world to perform. It will be a collaboration with world-renowned artists and several Japanese artists appearing in the show, to perform X JAPAN’s timeless hit song: “ENDLESS RAIN”
Ever since the impact of COVID-19 in February, YOSHIKI has remained in LA, so he will join remotely from LA for this year’s performance.
QUEEN’s Roger Taylor (from the worldwide hit movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”) and YOSHIKI co-wrote “Foreign Sand (Lyrics by Roger Taylor, Music by YOSHIKI)” in 1994 which entered the UK charts, have been friends for many years. Also, YOSHIKI opened at the “Classical Rock Awards (2015, London)” with QUEEN’s greatest hit “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which was praised by Brian May, who attended the event.
The world’s best-selling soprano Sarah Brightman chose YOSHIKI’s composition “Miracle” to be a single and was featured in her 2018 album. They have joined each other on stage for selected dates during her world tour, YOSHIKI’s classical tour, and at “Kohaku Uta Gassen” in 2018.
Last year, YOSHIKI and KISS performed together as YOSHIKISS. From being active all over the world, YOSHIKI is the only one capable of these star-studded artist collaborations that will create a historical televised moment and will expand the name of “Kohaku Uta Gassen” across the globe.
Furthermore, this year’s “Kohaku Uta Gassen” marks YOSHIKI’s sixth consecutive performances and a total of eleven. Eight performances as X JAPAN and three consecutive performances as a solo artist.
Also, all newly written songs in the recent years have become huge hits, which have all been performed on “Kohaku Uta Gassen”. In 2016 – Seiko Matsuda performed “Bara no youni saite Sakura no youni chitte”, in 2018 – Sarah Brightman performed “Miracle”, YOSHIKI feat. HYDE performed “Red Swan”. And this year, YOSHIKI’s “ENDLESS RAIN” special collaboration and “Imitation Rain” by SixTONES will be performed.
YOSHIKI’s message :
“ I am very honored to be performing at Kohaku again this year. It would have been ideal to go to Japan but with the global situation of the spreading coronavirus, I have remained in Los Angeles since February.
Therefore, I will perform remotely this year.
With QUEEN members and Sarah also performing remotely from their countries, I can assure you it will be an exciting and breathtaking stage. I hope that through the music, we can give everyone courage.
Please look forward to the performance.”

YOSHIKIMONO is selected for the kimono exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK, YOSHIKI’s innovative kimono styles receive critical acclaim internationally!
The kimono brand produced by YOSHIKI, “YOSHIKIMONO” is selected as one of the displays for the kimono exhibition “Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk” opening from February 20th at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) which is Europe’s first major exhibition on kimono.
Some of the pieces are from “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo 2016 S/S” (Refer to the photo). Also by famous designers, such as Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, and John Galliano will be lined up.
The ultimate symbol of Japan, the kimono is often perceived as traditional, timeless and unchanging. “Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk”, the UK’s first major exhibition on kimono, counters this conception, presenting the garment as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion.
The exhibition curator, Anna Jackson says “YOSHIKI blew a new wind towards the kimono world by utilizing his rock’n’roll sense. I’m really looking forward to exhibitioning his pieces. Especially the epochal styles YOSHIKIMONO has incorporated, will show how varied kimono can be.”
As other notable works in this exhibition, there will be pieces produced by a living national treasure of Japan, Kunihiko Moriguchi, Alexander McQueen’s piece worn by Björk for her album “Homogeni”, costumes from the Hollywood movie “SAYURI”, and costumes from “STAR WARS” which are produced by John Mollo and Trisha Biggar, based on kimono.
YOSHIKI, who was born the eldest son of a kimono fabrics shop owner, and chose the career in music in place of inheriting his father’s business, says “I’m honored to join this exhibition. I’m thankful for my brand “YOSHIKIMONO” being selected but also the fact that the whole kimono industry is being in the spotlight. Kimono is one of the most traditional things in Japan. I’m willing to keep the tradition and break the rules the industry has made in the limited field.”

YOSHIKI has donated 10 million yen (appx. $93,000) to Japan’s Chiba prefecture which suffered a devastating blow from Typhoon Faxai on September 10, 2019.
YOSHIKI posted his personal message on Twitter after the disaster. “I’m in America now, and I just became aware that my hometown of Tateyama was hit, along with the entire Chiba prefecture, by a typhoon causing massive amounts of damage. I’m very concerned, and I’m praying for a fast recovery.”
Just two weeks after their release, a record 25,000 bottles have been shipped of the new wines by Y by Yoshiki — Y by Yoshiki Chardonnay “Encore” California 2017 and Y by Yoshiki Cabernet Sauvignon California 2017 — with stores sold out everywhere due to unprecedented demand.
Called “smart casual wines” by YOSHIKI, they were created in the desire to have many people enjoy relaxed drinking. YOSHIKI is involved in numerous projects around the world and visited the Napa Valley many times during breaks in his schedule. This release is a long-awaited new wine that has finally reached perfection after many tastings with Rob Mondavi Jr. in Napa.
YOSHIKI has donated $100,000 to Earth Alliance and its Amazon Forest Fund in support of local efforts on the ground that are working to support the indigenous and local communities that are protecting the land and biodiversity. After hearing about the increasing fires throughout the Amazon region, YOSHIKI discovered the newly launched Earth Alliance and reached out to make the donation through his 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Yoshiki Foundation America. YOSHIKI chose to donate to the Amazon Forest Fund and Earth Alliance, which is hosted by Global Wildlife Conservation, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Earth Alliance is a new organization co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio in order to help address the urgent threats to our planet’s life support systems.

YOSHIKI WELCOMES CELEBRITY GUESTS, RAISES MONEY FOR CHARITY, AND PREVIEWS SONG FROM UPCOMING NEW FILM
A tasting presentation celebrating the release of “Y by Yoshiki Chardonnay ‘Encore’ California 2017” and “Y by Yoshiki Cabernet Sauvignon California 2017” was held on August 9, 2019, at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.
The new wines come from the “Y by Yoshiki” wine brand created by YOSHIKI in collaboration with Robert Mondavi Jr., a 4th generation Napa Valley winemaker. Since 2009, they have released 4 vintages, and all of them sold out immediately after release, causing the media to call them “phantom wines”. “Y by Yoshiki California” is smart, casual wine created with the concept of “having more people enjoy wine casually”.
“Though I was confident with my 10 years of winemaking experience, I impressed myself by creating such a smooth wine at this price range,” YOSHIKI said. “Still, I didn’t expect it to be sold out so quickly.” About his next wine, YOSHIKI says “It will be even better.”
YOSHIKI has donated 10 million yen to support the victims and survivors of the Kyoto Animation fire which occurred on July 18.After learning about the tragedy that befell the studio, YOSHIKI made the donation to the dedicated support fund established by Kyoto Animation through his 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Yoshiki Foundation America.
“I’m always doing tours around the world,” said YOSHIKI. “No matter where I go, animation fans come to my concerts and support my global activities. I’m always grateful to them. And I always want to contribute to the development of Japan’s anime culture, which I consider one of the world’s treasures. I truly share the pain of those who lost their families. I really hope this will assist the bereaved, and also hope that the circle of support around them will expand.”
